The AFGF Relay is a combination Overcurrent/Arc Flash and Ground Fault Relay (with Fuse Conservation) for switchgear and power distribution systems ranging from 400A – 6000A.
The AFGF system is designed for electrical equipment protection, not specifically for personnel protection.

The Arc Flash/Overcurrent section is designed to minimize damage due to overcurrent/Arc Flash events.

The Ground Fault section Class 1 Ground Fault relays with the proper CT/Sensors, are used for detecting Ground Fault Current in a grounded AC power system.

Note: The Arc Flash/Overcurrent section is not designed to prevent the condition, but to minimize the incident energy release and damage due to current spikes.

Arc Flash Relay Model selection: (3 MODELS)

AFGF1 Relay (Arc Flash)
- Arc Flash/Overcurrent Only (no Ground Fault)
- Options for with or w/o Fuse Conservation
- Uses individual sensors, (or a three phase sensor) around A, B and C Phases.

AFGF2 Relay (Arc Flash & Ground Fault)
- Arc Flash/Overcurrent & Ground Fault Protection
- W/O Fuse Conservation (For Fuse Conservation see AFGF4)
- Arc Flash/Overcurrent only enabled while in Maintenance Mode
- Ground Fault always enabled
- Uses 3 sensors on A, B & C phases for Arc Flash/ Overcurrent and a Zero Sequence for Ground Fault (allowing for better accuracy than the AFGF3)

The AFGF 2 model continually monitors for and will take action for Ground Fault, but only takes action for Overcurrent/Arc Flash when in Maintenance Mode. For Continuous Arc Flash Monitoring see AFGF 3 & AFGF4.

AFGF3 Relay (Uses 4 single phase sensors)
(Arc Flash/Ground Fault w/ Fuse Conservation)
-
  • Arc Flash/Overcurrent & Ground Fault Protection
  • With Fuse Conservation and Ground Fault always enabled
  • Reduced Arc Flash/Overcurrent and Ground Fault thresholds while in Maintenance Mode
  • Uses 4 sensors on A, B,C and N phases for Arc Flash/ Overcurrent and Ground Fault (allowing for easier placement when Neutral in not located physically close to the three phases)
